Festival de la Guitarra de Cordoba

During the first two weeks of July, the International Guitar Festival in Cordoba features concerts, activities, seminars, exhibitions, and courses for the classical, jazz, blues, flamenco, and modern guitarist.  Some of today's leading artists have been heard on the Festival stages, including Paco de Lucia, Al di Meola, John McLaughlin, Paco Peña, Larry Coryell, Raimundo Amador, Tomatito, Juan Serrano, Gerardo Núñez, and Bob Dylan.

Festival courses are offered in guitar-making, as well as classical, flamenco, jazz, and medieval guitar performance and composition with teachers in the past that have, most notably, included Manolo Sanlúcar, Stanley Jordan and Ralph Towner.  Another part of the Festival is the staging of an International Guitar Contest with participants drawn mainly from students attending advanced performance courses at the Festival.  Several cultural activities take place alongside the Guitar Festival at a number of venues through-out the city, with major events held at the impressive concert hall, El Gran Teatro.
